The New and Improved Library Media Center at Jordan Bank!

Welcome back to what will be one of the best years in Library-Media history at Jordan Bank Kindergarten Center!

We have a lot in store for our kindergarten students this year. Your children will begin taking books home around the middle of October, just in time for our 2nd annual family book character pumpkin decorating contest!

Please be certain to check you childs' school bag for a permission slip for checking books out of our library. (see link)

We also have the ever so important Scholastic Book Fair. This is the biggest fundraiser specifically for the library at Jordan Bank. All money raised goes directly back into the Library-Media Center. Previous purchases include: Welcome rug in library foyer, circulation mat, varous titles of books, as well as a listen center.

What's all the Buzz at Jordan Bank?

We have an author coming for a visit in April. Lindsay Barrett George will be visiting us in April. Be sure to check out her books from the library before her visit. Do you know where you can find her books on the shelf? Click on the title of this post to find out more information on our guest author.

ABC of the Library

We have been working with your children to understand that the library has a specific order. The order for fiction books is ABC order based on the author's last name. The students have been working with magnetic letters, clay, and ABC connect the dots to place items in specific order. We have worked with United Streaming Video and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.to help us with ABC order. We encourage the students to sing the ABC song in their heads or use the library resources such as the ABC bugs or the word wall to help them with ABC order.

The Books Keep Coming!

Thanks to the stimulus money, Jordan Bank Library has received another $20,000 for library books. I have been working with Follett Library Resources and Titlewave to create a list of titles that connect to the Houghton Mifflin Reading Series for Kindergarten as well as our Everyday Math Program. I have purchased all our library items from Follett Library Resources. You can browse their on line collection by clicking on the title of this post.

Technology on its way!

The library can officially be called a Library-Media Center! Jordan Bank will be receiving a ceiling mounted LCD projector and screen. I have been using an LCD cart since September, and the kids love the pieces of technology I can incorporate with each lesson. It has always been a bit difficult to strategically place the cart so the students' hands and heads were not in the way of the image. We will no longer have that battle. A ceiling mounted projector also allows for SMARTBOARD technology in the future.
