Dream Snow

Dream Snow, written by Eric Carle, is a sweet winter themed story. It is about a farmer who has five different animals and a small tree by the barn. He works hard to keep the animals happy and healthy. After a full day the farmer retires to his comfy chair and drifts off to sleep, dreaming of snow for Christmas. The snow he dreams about covers his animals in blankets of white. He awakes to see that there is real snow on the ground. Your children did an art activity hiding an animal under a blanket of "snow". When they bring it home, see if you know which animal is hiding beneath your child's blanket of white.

Santa visits library to check on Dewey's health

Santa arrived at the library with a marching band and a chorus. He was very concerned that Dewey did not make it back to the North Pole last night. Dewey perked up when he heard Santa's voice. Santa believes Dewey is ready for Christmas!

Sick books, Sick Elf!

Maybe all the late nights, the temperature changes, and the cookies have caused Dewey to be under the weather. Do you think Mrs. King can heal him like she heals some of our sick books? Perhaps it is time to get the Book Doctor's Kit out to help our library Elf.

Dewey is heating things up this close to Christmas!

Dewey has landed on our thermometer! He has a great view of all the children as they leave the library. Make certain you hold your book in you left hand, your bodies are still, your eyes are forward, your ears are listening, and your voices are quiet. Then he will give a good report to Santa!

Dewey and the Dinosaur

Dewey has found himself amoung some prehistoric creatures. They are reading one of our popular books at Jordan Bank Library, Dino Baseball. Dewey is keeping his eye on Rex! Have you read one of our Dino Sports Books?

Interactive Library Skills Review

After the children learned how to properly take care of their library books, and prevent book disasters, they learned to identify the names and roles of the Librarian and the Library Clerk. We have learned about the proper use of a shelf marker and how important it is to keep our library books in order.  We have now moved to working on knowing the library has a specific order in which we keep our books.  We will finish up 2014 by learning that our fiction books are kept in ABC Order based on the author's last name.  Test your knowledge with our review of Library Skills.

Dewey is one cool cat!

Look who we found Dewey hanging around with, Pete the Cat! Do you remember what shelf you can find Pete the Cat hanging out?  I'll give you a hint, Eric Litwin is the author.  If you listen quietly in the library you may hear Dewey and Pete singing "Give it your all".

Dewey has cookies, books, and milk.

We know Santa loves his cookies and milk.  It seems Dewey loves his books, cookies, and milk too.  Not a good combination when we are practicing to keep our library books safe.  Dewey is certainly on Mrs. Lewin's naughty list this year!

Elf Training Camp

Watch how Dewey, our library-elf, trains to become part of Santa's elite-elf team.

New books have arrived!

Each school year the library is provided a budget based on the anticipated number of students in the building. With this money we order new books. Part of the librarian's job is to build and weed a collection based on the needs, interests, reading levels, and state standards for library and language arts. We have only spent half the budget so far, and 42 new titles have arrived at Jordan Bank! Be the first in your class to check out and circulate these new books.  These books will be ready your next library book check out day!

Dewey has a book disaster!

Dewey needs to know how to properly take care of a book!  It seems he wanted to draw Christmas trees in his book.  I hope the children at Jordan Bank can tell this elf how to prevent book disasters.

Look who has returned to the library!

It seems we have a visitor from the North Pole!  Our naughty, little, library elf, Dewey, has returned to the Jordan Bank Library and is already up to mischief. Dewey makes certain the students are taking very good care of their library books.  Look for more pictures of Dewey's adventures this 2014 Christmas season.

School Year 2014-2015

Welcome to School Year 2014-2015. We are excited to be working with your children this year. Our first six weeks of school are critical for the children to learn proper book care. During this time your children will not be checking out library books. Book circulation will begin once the children and parents or guardians have signed and returned the library permission form. If you need an additional copy, please see permission form in attached pages.
